As we all know, a petticoat is essential to the lolita shape although some may give out over time. I've had quite a few petticoats over the years and had many different experiences with different materials. I guess I'll be doing a "best of" and "worst of" petticoat review.

The Tulle Petticoat

I cannot say how much I hate these. The material is rather delicate and loses its poof easily. I wear mostly brand pieces so to spend 9000 yen on something that will become flat after maybe a month of constant wear is a waste. There is a way to bring this type of petticoat back to life. I've heard of lolitas adding more tulle to the petticoats and thus bringing them back to their former glory.

The Organdy Petticoat

I favor these over the tulle petticoats. Organdy is much stiffer than tulle so you'll get more poof for your money. I have a Meta organdy petticoat and its still kicking after 3 years. although it has nothing to do with poof, another reason i favor these is that they are also visually pleasing. With the tulle petticoat, not much can be done with it besides sewing to lace to the hem. My Meta organdy petticoat is covered in ruffles and pin tucks.

The "Volume" Skirt

I consider these to be the holy grail of petticoats. This type of petticoat doesn't rely on stiff material to give it poof but instead layers and layers of gathered fabric. The best thing about these particular petticoats is that they will never lose their poof. I bought a h.NAOTO volume skirt a while ago and it has become my #1 petticoat. I'm considering buying a couple more just to see how ridiculous they will look layered on top of each other.

Sweet Relief

After hearing about the earthquakes and tsunami in Japan my heart sank as I worried about the well being of my relatives. My greatest concern was my grandmother who lives in the Chiba prefecture. The fires that hit in that area made me fear for the worst but I tried to remain clam. During this catastrophe I attempted to call and e-mail my relatives, mainly my grandmother and cousin who cares for her. Sadly, for the past view days I haven't received any word. I put on my happy face and tried not to let anyone see how I was feeling inside. I thought of the happy times I spent with them and prayed for their safety.

This morning I am filled with relief. My mother had told me that while I was asleep they had called confirming their safety. I quickly picked up the phone and dialed away while pinching myself just to make sure that this wasn't a dream. The voice on the other line was soft and familiar. My grandmother told me that she and everyone else was safe. All I could do after hearing her voice was cry.

I told her that I want to fly out but she and everyone else agreed that now would not be the best time. Though I wanted to be near her, I knew that she was right.

ロリータ☆アウティング☆レポート～シェーリの誕生日パーティー～

It has been a while since I had a chance to wear anything Lolita, so when Cherie had told me about her Loli optional birthday outing I jumped at the chance. We usually never arrive to an event dressed in Lolita since we both use public transit. I met up with her at the mall and we changed there. After changing, we headed into Waikiki to get to the restaurant. She had planned for us to have lunch at Makittii, a Hello Kitty themed buffet.

We met up with our friends and attracted quite a bit of attention. The restaurant was extremely cute and very colorful.

The food was rather tasty, from delicious shrimp tempura to a wide collection of sweets. I wanted to eat a lot more than I did but I was afraid that my clothes would look horrendous with a huge belly of food.

Hello kitty also made an appearance in a very tropical outfit complete with a pineapple on her head. When everyone finished eating we decided to take some pictures on the restaurant grounds.

After leaving the restaurant, we heading off to the purikura parlor.

We finished off the night with karaoke at our favorite place. They had recently upgraded there system and now have a touch screen remote.

After all that, Cherie and myself were extremely tired but It was a great day with wonderful people.

I'm currently working on another painting for Cherie's birthday since her present will most likely be late...
